By Pedro Díaz
In commemoration of the World Nutrition Day celebrated on May 28, RLH Properties and their Mexican portfolio, came together and officially began activities in the “Al Rescate” program developed by the Food Bank of Mexico (BAMX). BAMX, a Mexican non-profit organization made up of 54 food banks and part of The Global Food Banking Network, is dedicated to rescuing food throughout the supply chain and offering this to families, communities, and institutions that need it the most, fighting hunger and improving nutrition amongst the most vulnerable in our society.
In Mexico, a country where 23.7 million tons of food are wasted each year and where 28 million people face food shortages, the participation of the hotel and restaurant sector are fundamental and part of the solution. The "Al Rescate" program is specially designed for hotels and restaurants, more than 805,600 portions of food have been delivered since its creation in 2014. Currently, thanks to this program and other initiatives implemented by BAMX, 1.9 million people receive food support in Mexico.
Aligned with their values and sustainability strategy (under ESG criteria), RLH Properties and their Mexican assets: Four Seasons Mexico City, Andaz Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba, Rosewood Mayakoba, El Camaleón Mayakoba, and One&Only Mandarina, reaffirm their commitment to the environment and society, looking to assist those who need it the most.
“At Food Banks of Mexico, BAMX, we are very proud of the alliance with RLH Properties and all the hotels and golf courses that are part of this group in Mexico. Their commitment to feeding the most vulnerable, allows them to rescue food of great nutritional value in their kitchens and positively impact thousands of people who do not have guaranteed access to food. We plan to work together to reach so much more, because we want to end hunger in Mexico and this way, create a more sustainable country. We thank the entire RLH Properties family, the hotels, and golf course!” said María Teresa García Plata, General Director of the BAMX network.
“We are convinced that through programs such as “Al Rescate”, we are contributing to improving nutrition and health of the most vulnerable segments of our society. This is our small contribution, not only locally or nationally, but to also have a positive impact globally and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations Organization (UN), to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, ensure prosperity, and create a sustainable future for all”, added Borja Escalada, CEO of RLH Properties.
